Jeanne checking in here... Jenna’s 3 months old now. Time flies with her. She is 11 pounds and 23 inches long. I still can’t believe how much she’s changed our lives. She has beautiful eyes that continue to melt my heart every time I gaze at them…and most of the time, when you stare into her eyes with a smile; you will get a big smile back.
Jenna’s come a long way these last 3 months. Jenna is a much happier baby now, probably because I am getting to know her. In the mornings, if I catch her just before she’s crying for attention, she’ll give me a big “good morning” smile with her legs kicking off her blanket in the crib. She never cries because she needs to be changed. She gets whiney when she’s hungry, unlike the earlier months when all she did was cry bloody murder because she’s hungry. I now know her cues when she’s getting bored, getting over stimulated, or sleepy. She especially loves cooing in the morning. Since she was born I’ve been telling her “I love her” a million times a day. When she’s cooing, she tries to imitate that sound. I love her!
We like to go around town together. She’s really good in the car. She’ll sleep most of the time. She’s great in her stroller…as long as I give my frequent “I love you” and smile to her. Quick trips to the market, Target, Babies R Us and the mall are fun with her. Jenna and I also like to go to mommy and baby yoga classes when we can. We learn new exercises for her, massage techniques and songs. We’ve even been to the movies together. We saw Duplicity during a Monday morning mommy and baby matinee at the Grove. We also go to our weekly breastfeeding support group. We’re very busy :)
When we’re not out we’re busy at home. She wakes up between 8-9am and right into breakfast. She’ll usually want to burn up some of the calories by hanging out on her gym mat for some visual stimulation and leg kicks. Tummy time is not her favorite, but for someone who doesn’t spend the 10 minute suggested time, she’s doing pretty well. She can pull her head up over 45 degrees to look around and drool. She’ll even make an attempt to roll over, but no success yet. We just introduced her to a new toy, her jumper gym. She’s showing some interest but I can’t always read her face. Like most babies her age, she’ll give just give me a blank stare. Jenna and I like to dance to classical music at least once a day, sometimes twice, when mommy has the energy. We like to hang out under the tree in front of our house on a nice day. We go for walks if weather permits. During quiet activities, we’ll read a book, sing songs, do some exercises and stretches. We’re very busy :)
I love her! And I love seeing her thrive and develop. Her sight is getting better. She can follow a toy when I move them around her face. She can stare at her toys for at least 10 minutes at a time (sometimes 20!). Her hearing is getting better. She can follow voices. Of course, she favors mommy’s voice. She is starting to discover her hands. She loves to play with her hands, like she’s scheming. She also likes to suck on her hands and/or fingers (specially the index finger). She also recently started grasping at her toys. She can’t really hold on to them yet, she’s still learning.
It’s so fun seeing her grow. I am taking the advice of most moms I meet, “enjoy every minute you can with her now because time flies and you can never get these moments back with her”.
